In 2018, I started pitching Russian Colonialism topics to my Western editors for the first time. No one wanted it, arguing it is too complicated, confusing and far-fetched. That was part of the reason why I stopped writing for Western outlets and got extra disillusioned about their disregard for indigenous perspectives and diversity. Nevertheless, I refused to abandon the focus and instead started amplifying it on my own.
